During Black History Month, we partnered with Scottish BAME Writers Network to launch the Scottish Black Writers Group. The next meeting of the group is set for Thursday 17th December and features writer Delia Jarrett-Macauley.

During Black History Month, we partnered with Scottish BAME Writers Network to launch the Scottish Black Writers Group. The next meeting of the group is set for Thursday 17th December and features writer Delia Jarrett-Macauley.

Scottish Black Writers Groupis a new, free writers group facilitated by our Co-Director Dean Atta and in association with Scottish PEN. It is a monthly event open to writers across the UK and Ireland who are Black/from the African diaspora, including people of mixed heritage.

Scottish Black Writers Group is a space to meet, chat, network and talk about the writing life – writers both published and unpublished are welcome to join.

About Delia Jarrett-Macauley

Delia is the youngest daughter of a Sierra Leone family, is a writer, academic and arts consultant. Her books include the novel Moses, Citizen and Me, which won the 2005 Orwell Prize, and The Life of Una Marson 1905-65. She has made programmes for BBC radio, taught Women’s Studies and Literature at the universities of London and Kent, and is on the faculty of IES Abroad (London). Delia is also known for her pioneering collections Reconstructing Womanhood, Reconstructing Feminism: Writings on Black Women and Shakespeare, Race and Performance: The Diverse Bard. She was the Historical Advisor for the women of colour Richard II at Shakespeare’s Globe, London, 2019, and Chair of the Caine Prize for African Writing from 2015-2019.
