June 2, 2021The Scottish PEN Writers in Exile Committee is hoping to publish a special International issue of PENning magazine in Autumn 2021, featuring writers living and working in the African continent. This follows contact from our members regarding the lack of access to publication faced by writers in Zimbabwe, and a call for PENning magazine to provide a platform for new work by writers in Africa.
We would like to invite Scottish PEN members to champion and seek PENning submissions from an African writer (resident outside Scotland). We are looking for up to 3 poems of no more than 50 lines each or one prose or non-fiction piece of no more than 2,000 words.
The Writers in Exile committee would like to receive confirmation of the writer’s name and their agreement to publish by Wednesday 30th June. If you encounter any communication issues please contact the Committee and we will help to facilitate with the relevant PEN centre.
All final submissions must be received by the 31st August.
