It is our pleasure to announce that our international guest writer for LGBT Youth Scotland’s Many Voices group is Eli Clare, a disabled queer and trans writer-activist based in the United States. Eli will join the group, led by poet Nat Raha, for their final showcase event on 9th September in Edinburgh.

Eli lives in the Green Mountains of Vermont where he  writes poems and creative non-fiction. He’s written three books, the most recent being Brilliant Imperfection: Grappling with Cure, and a collection of poetry, The Marrow’s Telling: Words in Motion, and has been published in many periodicals and anthologies.

Eli speaks, teaches, and facilitates all over the United States and Canada at conferences, community events, and colleges about disability, queer and trans identities, and social justice. Among other pursuits, he has walked across the United States for peace, coordinated a rape prevention program, and helped organize the first ever Queerness and Disability Conference.

Eli shared this message about his involvement in the project:

“I believe in story as a way of both surviving and building community. I feel honored to be invited into this workshop to share writing in community and across national borders. Thank you so much. I’m hoping to explore Edinburgh, listen hard to the words of other writers, and sit in trans community. I can’t imagine a better kind of trip to Scotland.”

Please keep your eye on our website and social media for details about the upcoming event with I Write, I Rise writing group, Eli Clare and Nat Raha!
