A Bird is Not a Stone is an anthology of contemporary Palestinian poetry translated by Scottish poets. Join us for readings from the anthology by Edinburgh Makar Christine De Luca and Abla Oudeh, who will read the original Arabic. Discussion afterwards with co-editor Sarah Irving.

Christine De Luca was born and brought up in Shetland. She writes in English and in Shetland dialect as a poet and novelist. She has been appointed Edinburgh’s poet laureate (Makar) for 2014-2017.

Sarah Irving is a freelance writer and author of two books, specialising in social and environmental issues, Palestine and the wider Middle East, and travel. She is currently a PhD candidate at the Department of Islamic & Middle Eastern Studies, University of Edinburgh.

Abla Oudeh is a lecturer and translator with ten year experience of teaching English as a foreign language, and translation in different universities in the Arab World.
