The January ‘Making’ edition of PENning magazine is available to read for free online, via Issuu.

As always, contributions to the magazine were selected by the Writers in Exile Committee of Scottish PEN. The Making edition has been guest edited by Robin Lloyd-Jones and includes work from featured writer Elena Marinicheva.

Elena was born in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine and graduated from the Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU), Department of Journalism, where she majored in literary criticism before continuing to complete her master’s. She has worked for several well-known news and literary outlets and undertaken many notable works of translation, including the books ‘Fieldwork in Ukrainian Sex’ and ‘Museum of Abandoned Secrets’ by Oksana Zabuzhko, ‘Sweet Darusya’ by Maria Matios, and ‘The Orphanage’ by Serhiy Zhadan. Elena is a member of Literary Translation Guild (Moscow) and PEN Ukraine. A full biography is available in the magazine.
