Scottish PEN is supporting the Scottish Poetry Library in the presentation of two events in August.

At the request of Scottish PEN member Heather Kiernan, working with the Hands Up Project, Scottish PEN organised a call-out to Scottish poets to respond to ‘Moon Tell Me Truth’, illustrated poems by children in Gaza exhibited at the Scottish Poetry Library during June.

We have had to take the decision to postpone the event, ‘Declarations: On Freedom for Writers, Readers and Palestine’, which had been due to take place at Lighthouse Bookshop on Friday, 5th April.

We hope to reschedule the event for a date later this year.

The Writers in Exile committee of Scottish PEN invites you to join us to celebrate the English language publication of ‘The Last Pomegranate Tree’ by the internationally acclaimed, award-winning Kurdish writer Bachtyar Ali.

Scottish PEN is collaborating with Seahorse Publications, bringing writers together to share their response to Gaza through poetry and prose.

On Wednesday 14 February 2024, fifteen UK independent bookshops will hold events to raise money for the PEN Emergency Fund to provide support ringfenced for writers at risk who are in and from Palestine.

The Naomi Mitchison Memorial Lecture is hosted annually by Scottish PEN and the Edwin Morgan Centre for Creative Writing at the University of Glasgow. This year Hannah Lavery speaks on the subject of ‘Imagination as activism’
