Scottish PEN condemns the killings of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh and Ghufran Hamed Warasneh, identified by the National Press Club as a journalism graduate working for Dream, a local news agency.

Scottish PEN has joined with over 25 human rights, arts and culture organisations to sign a letter to Home Secretary, Priti Patel MP, calling for transparency, support provisions and expanded eligibility criteria and commitment to targets in relation to the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme.

‘The news today of the decision of the High Court to clear the way for Wikileaks founder and publisher Julian Assange to be extradited to the USA is a shocking blow to media freedom, with far reaching implications for investigative journalism worldwide’.

This online event took place on the evening of Monday 15th November, and was led by the Scottish PEN Writers at Risk group. Featuring readings from PEN members and guests including Rebecca Vincent (RSF) and Cat Lucas (English PEN), the event highlighted the cases of Maria Ressa, Nedim Turfent, Daphne Caruana Galizia, Varavara Rao and Ahmet Altan

The Day of the Imprisoned Writer (15th November) is a chance for writers and PEN centres to stand in solidarity with at-risk or imprisoned writers everywhere.
